HydroSure WRAS Approved Elbow Compression Coupling 20mm - Pack of 3
Features an anti-perishable o'ring that contracts tightly around the pipe wall for protection against leakage even at working pressures up to 16 bar.
Solutions that Work
For Top Tips on how to use Compression Fittings, read our Buyers Guide.
Installing a Compression Fitting
To install, simply unscrew the nut and clinching ring from the fitting and slide tapered edge first onto the pipe. Ensure the ‘O’-ring is in place and free from any twists and push the pipe into the compression fitting past the ‘O’-ring right up to the pipe stop (a ridge located in the centre of the fitting body). Push the clinching ring to the edge where the pipe meets the fitting and twist the nut onto the thread tightly. HydroSure compression fittings can be removed and reused without needing to cut the fitting out of the pipe. Simply unscrew the nut and pull the pipe from the main body of the fitting. The clinching ring can then be prised off and placed back into the main body.
Pipe Inserts
WRAS installations require a pipe liner/pipe insert at each compression fitting outlet. The primary function of the pipe liner is to support the shape of the pipe and protect against buckling under the compressive pressure of internal mechanisms within the fitting when water is fed through at high pressures. Simply slot the liner inside the pipe wall before installing the compression fitting.
Silicone Grease for Compression Fittings
HydroSure compression fittings arrive complete with silicone grease already applied precisely around the internal ‘O’-ring – no need to buy any added extras as pre-installation work has already been done for you. The primary function of greasing a fitting before pipe installation allows the pipe to slide past the ‘O’-ring without causing any gouges from jagged edges. Top Tip: Blunt the end of the pipe before installing it into a fitting using a pipe chamfering tool to reduce the risk of damaging the ‘O’-ring.Â
Compression Fittings that don’t Leak
Once the pipe is installed correctly inside the fitting, the internal ridge, called the pipe stop creates a smooth free flow for water to pass through the connection. Unlike other brands, this HydroSure compression fitting has a smooth edge that protects against any friction build-up within the system that will disrupt water flow and reduce the performance of emitters.
How Compression Fittings Work
HydroSure compression fittings feature an internal thrust ring that applies pressure to the clinching ring when the nut is sufficiently tightened. As this pressure between the nut and thrust ring is applied, the clinching ring, with sharp teeth like edges, lock themselves securely into the pipe wall. This combined action is expertly constructed for maximum security and reliability against pipe dislocation from the fitting. Please note: For threaded compression connectors, it is advisable to seal the join by wrapping PTFE/Teflon tape at least twice around the male thread.
WRAS Approved Compression Fitting
Each fitting is manufactured from high-grade polypropylene polymers mechanically tested to conform to standards EN12201-2 for use in potable water systems and in systems that require components to be WRAS approved. The non-metallic construction of materials is suitable for contact with drinking water having met the requirements of BS 6920-1 :2000.
