A soaker hose is a flexible rubber pipe that acts as a wick drawing water via capillary action through porous layers to deliver water directly to the roots. This highly effective yet gentle seeping action minimises water lost through evaporation eliminating soil erosion and surface runoff whilst using 70% less water than conventional methods.
Effective Root Watering
For healthier plants, a soaker hose delivers water exactly where it is required protecting the Earth’s most precious resource by eliminating water wastage onto the foliage whilst removing conditions for fungal disease. Ideal for watering flower beds, vegetable gardens, raised beds and trees.
High-Quality Soaker Hose
HydroSure high-quality soaker hose is expertly engineered from anti-perishable rubber promising a long-lasting and robust hose with an impressive two-year warranty.
Soaker Hose Irrigation
Engineered to withstand burst pressures up to 4 bar, the wide nominal wall thickness is manufactured from anti-perishable rubber for impressive split resistance when used alongside 13mm Barbed Connectors and Hose Connectors. (Not compatible with Nut Lock Connectors).
Easy to Install Soaker Hose
Promises reliable functioning emitting between 2 – 4 litres per hour per metre. For superior wetting patterns ensuring sufficient overlap and no dry spots, install a soaker hose in rows spaced 30 – 50cm apart.
Soaker Hose Important Installation Tips
Install a soaker hose in maximum lengths up to 30 metres. For larger installations, split the water flow from the tap using a Water Distributor or Dual Outlet Timer and run each outlet independently at separate times.
Soaker hose works best at water pressures around 1 Bar, install a Pressure Reducer at the start of the system to regulate pressure to the correct level.
Cap off each open end with an End Plug to maintain pressure within the pipe. Please Note: Soaker hose is not pressure regulated and should be used on flat garden layouts only.
Soaker Hose Frequently Asked Questions
How to Build a Soaker Hose System?
For best performance, unwind with care to avoid kinking the pipe and lay the hose flat on the grass preferably on a sunny day to allow any kinks to settle. Connect the soaker hose to your hose pipe using a Hose Joiner. Create a fully customisable system cutting the soaker hose to length with Pipe Cutters and arrange it in rows or as a gridded network using 13mm Barbed Connectors. Alternatively, for the ultimate time-saving solution, snake the soaker hose around your plants as a single length without the need for complicated irrigation components.
Extending your current irrigation system?
If you already have a soaker hose irrigation system in situ, you can always expand your system to irrigate other areas of your garden. HydroSure offers a range of components such as Barbed Connectors, Valves, Irrigation Supply Pipe and Hose Joiners to build a network of soaker hoses capable of watering more complex garden layouts.
Top Tip: Don’t forget to purchase additional Pipe Stakes for every extra metre of pipe.
Can a soaker hose be buried under mulch?
It is optional to cover the soaker hose in a layer of mulch or decorative bark (avoid burying the hose). This protects against evaporation of water on hot days, insulates the hose over winter and discreetly disguises the soaker hose from view.
I am going on holiday, how do I keep my plants watered?
There is no need to rely on the neighbours to keep your plants watered when you are away on holiday. Simply connect your soaker hose system to a Water Timer for automated irrigation set to specified watering days and frequency. Why not try a water timer to automate your garden irrigation even if you are not due to go on holiday – The ideal time-saving solution leaving you with more time for more important things.
My soaker hose drips onto areas I don’t want to water!
A Soaker hose is porous along its full length and will continue to leak where it is installed between planters or on a patio. In this instance, these in-between lengths are not watering any plants and wasting water. Use a Garden Hose Pipe or LDPE pipe to supply water between planters or from the tap to the area you wish to water.
How do I keep my soaker hose in place?
For accurate delivery of water, push a Ground Stake into the soil every metre length of the soaker hose. A ground stake can ensure your soaker hose sits directly at the base of the plant you wish to water meaning the water emitted is delivered directly to the plant’s roots. Top Tip: Ground stakes are ergonomically designed to secure pipe into position without causing any disruption to water flow. We do not recommend using tent pegs as an alternative due to the internal pipe bore restrictions this will cause.
